Groovy Gazing

This week Room Six had been writing recounts about there holidays .What I enjoyed about this is trying to remember the names of the stars . This was one of the best trips ever . I hope I can do it again .

Grooooovy Gazing

It was a very chilly night and My Nana decided that the next day we would drive to mount cook in her camper van . She did some research and found a perfect place for us to stay . SO we packed our bags and went to sleep . The next morning my Nana was up with the birds and she was ready to drive , however the rest of us were still in pajamas at lunch time …

But once we were off , we were driving at the speed of light  and there was no turning back , we waved farewell to my grandad and we sped off into the distance . We Sang songs , we slept , we stopped for snacks until we reached a popular tourists spot . Lake Tekapo I awoke with a spring as if I was a jack in the box and we looked around the site we were at . Immediately we went to the nearest supermarket it was a tiny four square but there was so many people in there all of the tourists were lining up to stock up their camper van (which was exactly what we were doing ) . After being in line for what felt like forever we went back to the camp grounds to explore the outdoors . My Cousin , Sister , and I walked off to look at the Lake and we took a bundle of photos . Once we had finished we went back to the van to find my Nana and Younger sister were awaiting us with dinner . Once we cleaned up my Nana and Little sister went to bed while us three big girls stayed up listening to music and eating snacks we had brought earlier that week . My cousin got tired and went to bed at around 11:30 so my Older sister and I were left in the front seat , We had a deep conversation about everything and we ended up rolling into bed at around 1:30 .

The Next morning we woke up to the sound of my little sister crying because she wanted Eggs for breakfast . Because of that we got up and my Nana made bacon and eggs while we set up the table outside for a lovely view of the lake . After our breakfast we were on the road again singing and sleeping once again .  Off to Aoraki , Mount cook we went to a lovely holiday park where there was showers a kitchen a living room and many other things . This is where we spent our night . At the receptionist’s desk we saw a flyer for stargazing . Ariana , Kowhai and I took a big interest in this and we decided to go along .

When it was time to go we got all suited up in 500 layers of warm clothes . The first thing we did was get seated underneath a dome in a dark room . the dome show told us a lot about the stars and the constellations . As soon as that was finished we went on a short bus ride to a place that looked like it was in the middle of nowhere . At the door we were offered hot chocolate’s and fluffy jackets I grabbed a mug of hot chocolate and a huge fluffy jacket and outside I went .

To find Five Gigantic Telescopes our tour guide Taylor Told us what was in each telescope . The first one was Alpha centauri and Beta centauri the next what the four stars creating a diamond shape . I learn that if you go from the middle of Alpha centauri and Beta centauri and the middle of the diamond then draw a line where the line meets you will find the northern star . In the third Telescope was the northern star . The fourth was Jupiter which was out the night we were there . also later that night Mars and Saturn were going to be out . The fifth Telescope we saw the moon . The moon was so big in the telescope and some people joked about seeing a man on the moon . After that we went back to our holiday park and lay on the table looking up at the stars to look for Mars and Saturn . Sadly we didn't see anything .

That was the end of the Groovy Gazing so off we went home in our little camper van home to see our grandad who had been awaiting our arrival .

This was by far one of the best experiences I have had and I really want to look into constellations and stars a lot more .
